The Department of Human Resource Management Hosted the 11th OBHRM Young Scholars Forum

On the afternoon of April 19, the Department of Human Resource Management of BNUBS invited Dr. Jiang Xu from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, to give a lecture on "The Trickle-down Effect of Paradoxical Leadership of Top Managers on the Creativity of Grassroots Employees.The lecture was held in conference room 1610 of the Rear Main Building of the university. Associate Professor Xu Zhixing, Associate Professor Li Lan, Director of the Department of Human Resource Management, master and doctoral students of the Department of Human Resource Management, MBA students, and 20 doctoral students from the School of Government participated in the exchange. The students and teachers at the meeting had a series of discussions and explorations with Xu Jiang and gained a lot.



Xu introduced to the students the theoretical basis, model framework, research methods and difficulties and challenges encountered in the research process of "The Trickle-down Effect of Paradoxical Leadership of Top Managers on the Creativity of Grassroots Employees" in detail. Combining paradox theory and social learning theory, this study proposes a cross-layer model from top managers to bottom employees: paradoxical leadership of top managers will affect the paradoxical thinking of middle managers, and thus affect the department competition and cooperation relationship of middle managers, while competition and cooperation will further affect the risk tendency of grassroots employees, and then have different strengths of influence on the progressive creativity and subversive creativity of grassroots employees.



Xu Jiang's research has aroused the deep thinking of students and teachers. In view of this research, teachers and students have conducted in-depth discussion and raised a series of questions, such as whether the theoretical construction process of her research considers the influence of Chinese cultural background (Yin Yang and paradoxical thinking) on middle managers and grassroots employees? Are relevant control variables added? How to control the experimental group and the control group in the process of experimental operation, how to select the experimental materials of the control group and the experimental group? In terms of specific data statistical methods, how to compare the strength of paths? Combining with his own research experience and the current research status, Xu Jiang has answered and elaborated the questions one by one. At the same time, Xu Jiang also analyzed the future research direction, and briefly introduced the main research issues and content of her doctoral thesis, and the students attending the meeting got a great harvest.
