On November 5, 2023, the funding list of the "Contemporary Economics Doctoral Innovation Project" (formerly China Economics Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award) in 2023 was officially announced. Ten outstanding doctoral theses from Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and other universities were awarded. The doctoral thesis written by Wang Chaonan, a doctoral graduate of the World Economy major of our School, stood out from more than 100 doctoral dissertations recommended by universities across the country and was successfully selected. The supervisor of the selected papers is Professor Wei Hao. This is the first time that our School has won this award.

The "Contemporary Economics Doctoral Innovation Program" (formerly the China Economics Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award) was established by the Contemporary Economics Foundation. The aim is to encourage outstanding doctoral graduates of economics in Chinese universities who are conducive to making innovative contributions in the field of economics, and encourage them to devote themselves to research in the academic frontier fields and contribute to the innovative development of economic science. The program is held once a year and supports a maximum of 10 young scholars each time. Each recipient of the "Economics Doctoral Innovation Program" will receive 100,000 yuan before tax and 40,000 yuan for the publication of his/her doctoral thesis. The program is for the economics doctoral graduates of Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan region of higher education institutions and research institutions. The basic materials for applying for funding are their doctoral thesis.

The title of Dr. Wang Chaonan's award-winning doctoral thesis is Research on Import Market Transformation and its Role in Chinese Enterprises. This paper focuses on the important phenomenon of "import market conversion", conducts in-depth research on the import market conversion behavior and function of Chinese enterprises, clearly puts forward the important phenomenon of "import market conversion", and constructs the analysis framework of import market conversion. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the import market transformation characteristics, this paper tries to explore a new path for China's import enterprises to achieve high-quality development through self-adjustment. This paper provides a new research idea for the future related research and is an important supplement to the existing literature. Under the background that the country vigorously implements the major national strategy of actively expanding imports, the research content of this paper also has important practical significance.

Dr. Wang Chaonan graduated from BNUBS in June 2023 with a research focus on International Trade. At present, he has published dozens of papers in China Industrial Economy, Economic Trends, Statistical Research, International Trade Issues, Journal of Renmin University of China, International Trade and other journals, and participated in major projects of National Social Science Foundation and National Natural Science Foundation. He participated in the writing of the China Import Development Report, and has won the Ministry of Commerce "National Business Development Research Achievement Award", "the 12th National Business Statistics Paper Award", "Beijing Normal University Graduate Academic Innovation Award" and other awards. In July 2023, he joined the Jiangsu Academy of Social Sciences to engage in scientific research.

Professor Wei Hao is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of BNUBS, the Director of the Department of International Economics and Trade, the Director of the National Import Research Center, and the chief expert of the major project of the National Social Science Foundation. He was selected as the national "Ten thousand Plan" talent project, Baosteel excellent teacher and Beijing famous teacher. His research interests include International Trade and World Economy. He has published more than 200 academic papers in CSSCI/SSCI journals, and more than 40 papers of him have been reprinted by Renmin University Photocopying Materials and China Social Science Abstracts. Professor Wei Hao's published papers in the field of Trade Economy and the number of citations have been among the forefront of the country for many years, and he is an international trade expert recommended by relevant ministries and commissions to national media organizations. He has published dozens of signed articles in People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, etc. His monograph was selected into the "National Library of Philosophy and Social Science Achievements" and won more than 30 provincial and ministerial awards, including the "Seventh Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award of Higher Education Institutions (Humanities and Social Sciences)" of the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Wang Chaonan's thesis won this honor, which fully demonstrates his excellent achievements and excellent ability during his study in the BNUBS, and it is also inseparable from his rigorous academic attitude, solid academic foundation and careful guidance of his tutor. This is also the result of various measures taken by schools and colleges to improve the quality of doctoral theses, strengthen the quality management of graduate theses in multiple dimensions, and increase efforts to train top-notch innovative talents.
